The mission of Ashford Housing Authority is to enhance the Ashford community by creating and sustaining safe, decent, and affordable housing that fosters stability and increases self-sufficiency for elderly and disabled individuals with low to moderate income.

Pompey Hollow Senior Housing
Est. 1994
The Ashford Housing Authority was created by the Board of Selectmen in October 21. 1987. Shortly thereafter they began working the long journey into building the much needed housing for seniors and the disabled.
The Pompey Senior Housing groundbreaking was on May 19, 1993 and it was completed in June 1994. The first two residents, one of which still resides here, moved in July 1994.
Town of Ashford
Pompey Senior Housing is located in Pompey Hollow Park. The park features a tennis court (which frequently has pickleball going on ), the Earl. W. Smith Senior Center, a small playground, short walking trails, a large grassy area in the middle with benches, and the Veterans Memorial. The park hosts the annual Memorial Day ceremonies, summer concerts, and Ashford Family day.
The Old Post office, located at the entrance to the park, hosts the local farmers market. Across the road from Pompey Hollow Park you can find the Town Hall, the Babcock Library, and a newer Cumberland Farms. Ashford has an active senior community, between the recreation department, the library, and the senior center you can always find something to do. For those who enjoy fishing, the Mount Hope River can be accessed from Pompey Hollow park.
The Ashford Business Association has a great list of local business around town if your curious about what the Town of Ashford (and surrounding towns) has to offer. Some of the close local places are the Ashford Spirit Shop, The Wooden Spoon Restaurant, Dollar General, XtraMart/Dunkin Donuts, Midway Restaurant.
Quiet Corner of Connecticut
Pompey Senior Housing is located in a very beautiful, rural setting but it is also a 15-20 minute drive to everything you may need.
To the north you can visit Stafford, a former mill town with a quaint village feeling. They have lots of small shops, restaurants, and grocery stores, as well as many antique shops. Stafford Speedway is located here with races on Friday’s during the season. This is also the location of Johnson Memorial Hospital.
To the East you can head towards Killingly for more shopping, home to many shopping plazas with both big stores and mom and pop stores. or you could head up to Putnam for their famous antiquing. This is the location of Day Kimball Hospital.
To the south Willimantic, “Thread City’ is a bustling city area with just about everything; they have parades and a new concert venue. It’s also the location of the closest DMV and Windham Hospital.
To the west, Storrs offers a brand new shopping center, filled with small shops, restaurants, a pharmacy, a walk-in clinic, and a Price Chopper Market Place. Of course, located within Storrs is The University of Connecticut home of the UConn Women’s Husky Basketball team. UConn has many sporting events that you can attend right on campus including basketball, soccer, baseball, and hockey. They also have the Jorgenson Theater which offers a wide variety of concerts and performances. Storrs also has Recreational Center with lots of offerings including a large gym, an indoor track, and a swimming pool.
To the West you can head to Vernon or Manchester for shopping malls, or continue on to Hartford. Rockville Memorial is in Vernon, Manchester Hospital is in Manchester, and Hartford has Hartford Hospital and St. Francis Hospital.
